Become a Private Investigator
The licensing of Private Investigators in the UK will assist the larger, more competent, detective bureau's and investigators in the private sector to reaffirm their position as the most effective tool in locating debtors, people searching, conducting, "Pin sharp" surveillance and serving legal documents. A well run and profitable private detective bureau can be rewarding and life affirming!
We already offer a comprehensive introduction to private investigator practice and expertise in our established UK Private Investigator Training Course
As the likelihood of compulsory licensing for the private detective sector becomes apparent our training section: Private Investigator Training UK is pleased to have become an EDI approved Centre that offers the VRQ Level Three Award for Professional Investigators - this is the only training, that is currently approved and endorsed by the Security Industry Authority covering England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

We therefore offer both licence linked training and general investigator training to supply the knowledge and expertise to operate and maintain a successful private investigation business. Please remember the key points:
- The Private Investigator Sector in the UK is not currently licensed, but, the Industry is on the verge of compulsory licensing - following the Leveson enquiry.
- The only training course linked to Licensing that is approved by the Security Industry Authority is the EDI Level 3 Award for Professional Investigators.
- Private Investigator Training UK is approved to offer the EDI Level 3 Award for Professional Investigators.
The opinion of the main trade associations is being sought by Leveson - the Association of British Investigators (A.B.I.) serve the largest tranche of investigators and are looking for "Self regulation" - a test of competency based on S.I.A developed criteria is included in this aspiration. The Institute of Private Investigators are looking for regulation with a exam based upon the Security Industry Authorities competency criteria.
On a personal note, I have always sought to be proactive and "Continuing Personal Development" is of paramount importance to my staff and myself - the L3 professional investigator award has given us a lot of credibility with our clients. At the end of the day, the legal and commercial sectors are looking for investigators who can demonstrate that they have taken the time to study for and have completed an accredited exam.
To put matters into perspective, the L3 Professional Investigator Award is not designed to provide you with the knowledge and "Field craft" to operate in the PI world, essentially it is designed to prove that you understand the law and ethics as they relate to private investigations - that is the purpose that it was intended for - that existing and established investigators can demonstrate their credibility and competence.
Essentially, new comers to the industry must consider further training courses - use the EDI Level 3 Award as a starting off point. Remember that Burton Regan Detective Bureau / Private Investigator Training UK will also supply it's private investigator training manual to all learners who enrol on the L3 award - this will provide a full introduction into, "How to actually do the job".
